Adult Dog Nutrition

Life Stage

Adults 1-7 years depending on size. Balanced diet: protein 18-25%, fat 10-15%. Two meals daily. Choose for size and activity. Active dogs need higher calories and protein. Monitor body condition - feel ribs without seeing them. Rotate protein sources. Fish oil for skin and coat.

Puppy Nutrition First Year

Life Stage

Puppies need more protein, fat, calcium than adults. Feed puppy formula first 12 months (24 months large breeds). 3-4 meals until 6 months, then 2-3. Choose AAFCO-approved. Avoid grain-free for large-breed puppies (DCM link). Treats under 10% of calories. Transition gradually over 7-10 days.

Senior Dog Nutrition

Life Stage

Seniors 7+ (large) or 9+ (small). Lower calories 20-30% reduction. Higher quality protein for muscle mass. Joint supplements: glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, omega-3s. Senior formulas with antioxidants. Softer food for dental issues. More frequent small meals. Regular weight monitoring.
